Stop Internet Censorship
You might have noticed a bit of commotion lately over two bills currently in the United States House of Representatives (SOPA) and Senate (PIPA).
These bills could very easily limit or completely destroy many kinds of free speach currently present on the Internet.
This very website often makes liberal use of something called “Fair Use” which allows us to make social or political commentary on pop culture and art, using copyrighted material in order to make statements that may go against popular opinion. That is our right, protected not only by the consitution but by copyright law, and it is currently under assult by the entertainment industry.
Nearly every site on the Internet is at risk of being censored as a result these bills.
That right will be in grave danger and could easily mean that this site can be blocked and/or shut down at the mere hint of copyright infringement. It’s not just sociecity that would be in trouble either, this bill could potentially apply to the majority of websites on the Internet, YouTube, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, and pretty much any other website who either uses copyrighted material, or even simply links to a site that uses copyrighted material is at risk of being blasted into oblivion with minimal due process.
